Hamilton: Neighborhood Style for All

BACKGROUND:

Hamilton is Kansas City's newest retail store, offering KC-local goods while providing neighborhood style for all. Hamilton's founder, Katy Hamilton, is a visionary, fellow creative, and successful owner of Shop Girls, Hamilton's sister store. She decided to embrace a new challenge and began plans to open another Kansas City shop, Hamilton. She reached out to CatCoq for a custom and cohesive branding identity. Hamilton embodies the spirit of the Brookside neighborhood and is located at 6215 Oak Street. Go stop by Tuesday–Saturday from 10–6. If you're feeling like a night owl, check out their Late Night + Events on Thursdays!

STRATEGY:

Because Shop Girls serves a feminine audience, Katy wanted Hamilton to have a more masculine touch, while still remaining appealing to both genders. The key words we kept circling back to are: light, curious, strong, clever, grounded and delightful. We decided to incorporate classic design elements, punched up with a modern twist. I designed crisp and clean graphics, polished off with a hand-stamp for some imperfect authenticity. Gold foil accompanies kraft paper for a luxe-meets-utilitarian vibe. I created a custom argyle pattern, with angles matching the same degrees of the logo, as a background element. My favorite part of seeing this all unfold was when Katy hand-laid pennies on her floor, alternating rusty with shiny, to match the same argyle pattern as in her branding.

Hamilton's Grand Opening Party was packed and buzzing. Read about it here.
