I find inspiration in the natural world around me. While hiking in Yosemite National Park, I came across dozens of split trees. Some stumps were long decayed, while others still smelled like fresh pine. The patterns of tree rings in each were a work of art in itself. When I returned to my studio, I was inspired to depict my own interpretation a tree's cross-section using a stylus and India ink. In this series, I've referenced trees that are found throughout the Calgary area.
