New Fit + Fresh Collaboration - Exclusively at Sam's Club

I now officially have my own line of products available through Sam’s Club stores! I teamed up with Fit + Fresh to design a collection of cheerful & modern lunch bags.

My featured designs are bold and colorful with pops of pink and fresh minty tones. I illustrated the palm pattern design here in Mexico and the x-pattern while I was living in Chiang Mai, Thailand between 2016–2019.

Needless to say, it’s been pretty cool to see my original artwork bloom into a cohesive, quality product like these Fit + Fresh lunch bags. The brand’s curation team regularly attends fashion shows, keeps their eyes on the latest trends, and interviews thousands of women each year to better understand their needs. I’m honored to contribute my art to such a fashion-forward, charming company.

Meet the Artist (Hey, that’s me!)

Curious about what it’s like being a traveling artist who just scored a massive product placement deal? Buckle up, it’s story time.

Fit + Fresh needed photos of me holding their product to use in marketing materials and in-store display paneling. It’s a “Meet the Artist” initiative– this is a cool opportunity for customers to see who designed the lunch bag. (Pretty neat idea, by the way: most people never think twice about the artist behind the design, especially for utilitarian products.)

The only hiccup in the plan? I was currently in France, hosting a watercolor retreat. Easily enough, Fit + Fresh shipped a sample to the countryside chateau in Saint-Priest-Ligoure where I was staying. Between painting sessions with my students, I zipped outside to get the series of photos the client needed. Afterwards, I tucked the lunch bag into my suitcase so I could bring it back to Kansas City when I returned to the USA.

Fast-forward a few months: Best travel souvinir to give my dad? Why, a Fit + Fresh lunch bag, of course! My dad now has a brand new lunch bag that he gets to bring to work every day! Bonus: it was designed by his own daughter. I think the hot pink & turquoise palette really speaks to his personal aesthetic.

One of the best parts about art licensing is surprising my loved ones with product samples. I think my dad’s pretty thrilled about it, too. If anyone can pull off this fabulous look, it's Dad.

Here’s the gem you’ve been waiting for:

Sneak peek behind-the-scenes into my art process:

Here’s a little process video I whipped together to show the technique I used. With seamless patterns, it’s vital that whatever gets cut off one side must be repeated on the other.

It took me lot of trial & error to really get a hang of this design technique, but once I did, my portfolio bloomed with intricate patterns just like the Tropical Palm Pattern.

I’m pretty impressed by how the substrate of the lunch bag captures the vibrance & intricacy of my original illustration.

BIG thank you to Fit + Fresh for this incredible opportunity, as well as Jewel Branding & Licensing for facilitating this match made in heaven. 🖤
